Meet our undergraduate scholarships holders
184 undergraduates who have just joined the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department. Meet the scholarships holders.
A very big welcome to the 184 undergraduates who have just joined the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department. Among our extremely bright cohort we have several scholarship winners.
George Punter, who is studying our Electronic and Information Engineering MEng degree, has received the Imperial College Kingsbury Scholarship, one of the most highly prestigious and valuable engineering scholarships available to home students anywhere in the UK. This scholarship is awarded to one outstandingly bright and dynamic student each year who will ultimately seek employment as a graduate in a UK engineering industry. The award is worth £20,000 a year with £9,000 for fees and £11,000 for maintenance.
The Kingsbury Scholarship winner must complete work experience in the engineering sector before or during their course, and George has spent the last year working with Waukehsa Magnetic Bearings in Worthing - a placement he obtained through the EDT’s Year in Industry scheme. George also went on to win EDT’s 2015 Year in Industry student of the year award.
George says “Moving away from home to work full-time last year taught me the importance of getting involved, but also how hard it can be keep on top of everything whilst trying to make ends meet… this scholarship allows me to worry less about money and more about making the most of my time at Imperial.”
Jacob Kay, studying our Electrical and Electronic Engineering MEng, has won the Nexen Petroleum UK Ltd. Scholarship. One student in Geology and one student in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London is awarded these scholarships each year, which provides £3,000 contribution towards maintenance costs for up to four years.
Jacob says “to me the scholarship means that I was considered one of the best students in the department (based on merit/reference), I also appreciate the monetary value of it because it'll allow me to purchase supplies to develop my interest in EEE beyond the syllabus of the course.”
Congratulations to all our new students. We wish you the best of luck with your studies.
