The London School of Economics and IGHI partner up to host an event on the financing of innovative therapies.
Medics and Economists from LSE and the Institute of Global Health Innovation at Imperial College London teamed together yesterday afternoon to host a unique event in London focusing on the financial sustainability of innovative therapies and their value assessment.
This event provided an exciting opportunity to bring together clinical experience, technical innovation, economic expertise and scientific thinking from a collaborative partnership between both Institutions and a novel platform to discuss the latest developments in medical innovation, including current challenges and future prospects.
Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham opened the proceedings, which was then followed up by two panel sessions. Session 1 ‘Value Framework of Innovative Medical Technologies’ was chaired by IGHI Director Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham. Session 2 was on ‘Options for the Sustainable Financing of Innovative Therapies’ and was chaired by Professor George Gaskell, Special Advisor to the LSE Director. Both sessions heard from a wide variety of panellists from various institutions.
The Forum was supported by Gilead Sciences, Inc. which has provided funding through an unrestricted educational sponsorship.
The Institute of Global Health Innovation’s Director Professor the Lord Darzi said “This impactful event, really championed by Professor Elias Mossialos, provided a key platform to bring the world of healthcare and economics together to assess therapeutic value and find new ways of achieving financial sustainability in healthcare innovation. This was our first formal collaboration with the London School of Economics and we were delighted to host such an esteemed group of speakers and delegates. We hope it will be the first of many”.
