Every year the Big Bang, the biggest science fair for young people in the UK takes over Westminster Kingsway College. The TSM CDT had the opportunity to participate for the second consecutive year, on behalf of the Solar Spark.
In particular, Vadim Nemytov from the newest cohort joined the regular Solar Spark ambassadors to reveal to schoolchildren the secret behind the colour of the sky.
This was part of a set of experiments aiming to introduce the notions of spectrum of light, wavelength, scattering process and energy conversion. All these concepts are fundamental to the research on solar energy and Vadim explained why throughout the day. The Solar Spark volunteers also showed the audience how solar energy is commonly used in our society featuring a solar backpack, a solar computer keyboard and last but not least … solar toys!!
