Brazilian delegation visits Institute of Global Health Innovation
Key stakeholders from Brazil visit Institute of Global Health Innovation to see the best of British expertise in health.
Last week, a delegation of key decision-makers and stakeholders from Brazil, including renowned oncologist Dr Drauzio Varella, visited the Institute of Global Health Innovation (IGHI) to gain insight on the latest developments in healthcare in the UK. The delegation was made up of State Secretaries of Health from nearly a dozen States in Brazil.
Dr Matthew Harris, Senior Policy Fellow in Public Health from IGHI’s Centre for Health Policy, who previously worked as a Primary Care physician in Brazil, introduced the delegation to the research carried out by the Centre for Health Policy, including patient safety, the use of big data in health research, and how best practises in the NHS can be replicated in Brazil.
Professor Robert Brown, Head of the Division of Cancer and Chair in Translational Oncology in the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial, shared his expertise on cancer prevention and gave an overview of the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) research programme.
The delegation also visited the Surgical Innovation Centre of the Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery. The team toured the Robotics Suite, which hosts surgical and assistive robots, sensing robots and micro/nano robots; the Orcamp, the world’s first stimulated endovascular suite which allows for the study of teams in a high fidelity stimulated environment and provides training for ruptured aneurysm repair; and the Simward, which the department has developed to analyse non-operative care processes critical to the surgical patient journey.
This visit was part of the UK/Brazil Health Week organized by HealthcareUK.
