Current and former researchers from the Department of Chemical Engineering were well represented at the IChemE Global Awards 2015 held in Birmingham.
Dr Ho Wai Shin, a former PhD student at the Department and currently Senior Lecturer at University Teknologi in Malaysia has been awarded the prestigious Young Chemical Engineer in Research Award. Dr Shin's research targets process planning, modelling and simulation with a focus on developing sustainability in energy, water and waste management.
Bhavish Patel and Patrizia Marchetti from the Department were also shortlisted for the Young Chemical Engineer in Research award; Patrizia Marchetti's work was highly commended by the panel of judges, only losing out narrowly to Dr Shin. Watch Bhavish Patel present a summary of his work in the video below.
The Department was also well represented in the Research Project of the Year category with nominations going to the UNIHEAT Project led by Professor Sandro Macchietto in collaboration with others from the Department, BP and Boreskov Institute of Catalysis. Also nominated in the category was the project "Sub-10nm polyamide films for molecular separations" conducted in collaboration with BP-ICAM and led by Santanu Karan. You can watch a summary of the project presented by Dr Karan in the video below.
Once again, our congratulations to the winners and nominees. Visit the IChemE website for the full shortlist of nominations and winners, and to see more photos from the award ceremony.
