Research uses NMR and X-ray crystallography to reveal the mechanism of Candida infectivity

Researchers lead by Dr Ernesto Cota-Segura in the Division of Molecular Biosciences have elucidated the apparent molecular basis for the broad tissue specificity of the fungal pathogen Candida albicans.  The research, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) of the USA, uses NMR and X-ray crystallography to reveal the mechanism by which Als fungal adhesion proteins can bind an unusually wide range of host receptors.  A general overview can also be found on the Science Daily web-site.
