Aligning with Patient Safety
The All Party Parliamentary Group for Patient Safety held their first meeting in October chaired by Andrea Jenkyns MP
The first meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Patient Safety was held recently in October to assess the first White Paper on the Government’s Zero Tolerance approach to healthcare associated infection.
The APPG was set up in July 2015 with Andrea Jenkyns MP elected as Chair and acts a forum for interested Parliamentarians, healthcare experts and members of the public to address patient safety issues in the health and care sector.
Professor Jonathon Cooke of Imperial College and Dr Raheelah Ahmad from the Health Protection Research Unit (HPRU) in Healthcare Associated Infection (HCAI) were among the attendees at the meeting and gave presentations.
Dr Raheelah Ahmad presented a White Paper on Zero Tolerance in Infection Prevention and control (co-authors Dr E Castro Sanchez and Dr M Iwami), as part of the wider discussion on infection prevention and the threats posed by antimicrobial resistance. The paper is intended to inform future evidence gathering activities, consultation of wider groups and wider research as appropriate.
The next meeting will be held on the 8th December and you can follow APPG Patient Safety on Twitter
The Health Protection Research Unit is also supporting the Hand Hygiene campaign. The campaign launch was opened by Dame Sally Davies. Our schools hand hygiene resources are also being promoted in conjunction with this. Head of Operations, Juliet Allibone and Research Assistant Oliver Blandy from HPRU have been working on this project.
