With Christmas approaching, the Careers Service look back at the highlights of this term.

An Autumn season jam-packed with events at the Careers Service is drawing to a close ahead of the Christmas break, so it is time to look back at the highlights of this term and get an indication of what you can expect the same time next year.

Career Fairs

With nearly 4,000 students attending our three industry-specific careers fairs, students had the perfect opportunity to discover new career paths and ask questions to more than 160 employers.

Starting with the Finance and Consulting Fair, Nomura, J.P. Morgan and Oliver Wyman were among the high profile companies in attendance. Students had a great chance to kickstart their job search by finding more about the companies and what they’re offering.

The biggest Careers event of the year then followed, the Engineering Fair. With 80 companies under one roof, it was a fantastic opportunity to meet a large number of recruiters in a short space of time and make valuable contacts. Imperial’s Engineers had the pick of the bunch with a large variety of employers offering vacancies, including Rolls Royce, Engineering Safety Consultants and Shell.

The Careers Service rounded this term’s Fairs off with the IT & Technology Fair. Students connected with companies like Google, Ocado Technology and Microsoft. Fairs are an easy way to build confidence by speaking to employers and learn about their recruitment processes.

Career Forums

The Autumn Term Career Forums covered a wide range of sectors including Energy, Consulting, Science, Manufacturing and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods to give students a true insight into the wide variety of options available. Forums provide more of an in-depth, rounded look into each sector. Six companies attended each forum and gave a presentation about their company, and their experiences in the industry, followed by a Q&A session and networking afterwards.

And all the rest…

The Careers Service also ran smaller, more focused events including Lunchtime Talks running twice a week over the Autumn Term. Employers came onto campus to share their experiences in their sector with Imperial students. Our employer-led Skills Workshops also offered an opportunity for them to give back to Imperial by training students in the skills they need to suceed in a graduate position.

Looking ahead

Keep an eye out for Careers Spring Term events! From 11 January 2016 onwards talks, workshops, fairs and forums will be in full swing. Find out more by logging into JobsLive.
