3 ways to stand out at the Internship Fair

by

Students

Prepare for the Internship Fair and make the right impression with recruiters from a range of sectors. Internship Careers Fair, 18 February 2016

  1. 1.       Failing to prepare is preparing to fail!

Researching studentShow your enthusiasm and initiative by doing your research. Before attending the fair look up what companies are attending and who you would like to speak to. Look at company websites and find out what their ethos and background is, as well as their graduate recruitment process and vacancies.

2.       Network, network, network

Make a good first impression, dress professionally and be enthusiastic! When an employer asks you ‘Tell me about yourself’, you want to be able to introduce yourself and highlight some key facts in 20-30 seconds.

You could include:

Your name, course and year of study

•  Your Unique Selling Point – you could mention your involvement in societies or volunteering

•  Your objective – for example, you might be ‘seeking opportunities for internships this summer in order to gain further insight into x sector’

3.       Always follow up afterwards

Ask for a business card and send the recruiter an email afterwards saying thank you and attaching a copy of your CV for their reference. It will help them remember your name when you come to apply for an internship.
