by Rakhee Parmar

PhD student Rachael Troughton will be presenting a poster on blogging in infectious diseases and clinical microbiology at SHEA

The NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in Healthcare Associated Infection and Antimicrobial Resistance is delighted to announce that Rachael Troughton, PhD student has had her abstract entitled Blogging in infectious diseases and clinical microbiology: assessment of the ‘blogosphere' content accepted to The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America Spring Conference 2016 as a poster presentation.

Blogs are becoming increasingly widespread, and can be useful for quickly and interactively communicating new information. To explore this resource Miss Troughton and colleagues analysed the content and characteristics of influential infectious disease (ID) and infection control (IC) blogs and bloggers to describe the ID blogosphere.

The study shows that infectious disease (ID) and infection control (IC) blogs represent user friendly, interactive, and efficient tools for the development of collective intelligence networks. As well as giving a new assessment tool and a list of quality blogs, this study suggests how bloggers should target blogs for readers, and highlights a lack of AMS blogs.

The conference is taking place in Atlanta, Georgia, USA from 18th - 21st May. For more information visit http://sheaspring.org
