Electrical Engineering students are recognised for their contribution to student life by being awarded Student Activity Awards.
Congratulations to Helen Root and James McComish who have been given Student Activity Awards by the College. Every year, the Old Centralians' Trust gives out two Student Activity Awards to undergraduates in each of the ten departments in the Faculty of Engineering.
Each of these awards is worth £750 to a returning student who plays an active role in society, sport or union affairs. The Student Activity Awards are not based on academic merit, but offer a reward for students' all-round involvement in University life.
James, who has just finished his third year in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, is Captain of the Men's water polo team and has been an Events Officer for EESoc – the Electrical Engineering Student Society. As events officer James helped organise a number of EESoc socials as well as their biggest ever New Year’s dinner. James says:” I'm happy to get the award and it will encourage me to stay involved next year.”
Helen Root, third year in Electronic and Information Engineering, was given her award for her contribution to Imperial College’s DramSoc which has been a constant during her time at Imperial. Through it Helen has have taken on various different roles in theatre, including for directing 'Neverwhere' which took place in the autumn term. Helen says: “I loved seeing months of dreaming and hard work realised in a wonderful (if I may say so myself) performance! This experience peaked my interest in directing, so I intend to use the award to go on a short director's course and bring back new knowledge to DramSoc.”
