Why do mitochondria retain some of their own genomes?
Dr Iain Johnston, co-investigator at the Centre for Mathematics in Precision Healthcare, co-wrote the following article with Dr Ben Williams for 'The Scientist' to explain why some mitochondria have retained some of their genes when the majority migrate to the cell's nucleus.
