Graduation day for the Chemical Engineering Class of 2016

Congratulations to the Imperial Chemical Engineering Class of 2016 as they celebrated their graduation on the Commemoration Day, 19th October!

On behalf of the Department of Chemical Engineering, we would like to extend our warmest congratulations to the Class of 2016 on their graduation. As over 2,200 graduating students filled the seats of the Royal Albert Hall on the Commemoration Day, President Alice Gast congratulated them and urged them to maintain global outlook in both professional and personal levels. She said "The major problems facing the world extend beyond national borders and demand global cooperation and collaboration."

As part of the graduation ceremony five staff members were awarded President's Medals including Susi Underwood, the Department’s Postgraduate Administrator, who was presented with the President’s Medal for Supporting the Student Experience.

After the official ceremony in the Royal Albert Hall, staff, graduates and family came together for a champagne reception in the Queen's Tower Rooms. Professor Nilay Shah, Head of Department, offered encouragement and best wishes. He also presented prizes to students who have shown exceptional academic performance throughout the four years of the Chemical Engineering course.

Jin Tan Institution of Chemical Engineers Books Prize (Awarded annually in the form of books published by the Institution to the undergraduate student of Chemical Engineering who, on the basis of performance in first year studies, is considered to be the most deserving.)

Michelle Tan Procter and Gamble Prize (Awarded annually to the student who produces the best overall performance in Part II of the MEng course in Chemical Engineering.)

Sarah Quek BP Chemicals Prize in Chemical Engineering (Awarded to the student who produces the best overall performance in Part III of the MEng course in Chemical Engineering.)

Maria Abundo Governors’ Prize in Chemical Engineering (Awarded to the student of greatest merit in the final examinations in Chemical Engineering.)

Marcus Bishop Hinchley Medal (Awarded by the Institution of Chemical Engineers to the student of greatest merit in the final examinations in Chemical Engineering.)

Gabrielle Sessa William Peck Book Prize (Awarded annually to a student of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemical Technology for proficiency in the final examinations in Chemical Engineering and in the design project.)

Ravi Shankar Ken Weale Memorial Prize (Awarded to the student of greatest merit on the course "Chemical Engineering with a Year Abroad" who has spent a year studying Chemical Engineering in a non-English-speaking country.)

Emilie Lunddahl Katrina Jacks Memorial Prize (Awarded to a student of high merit in the 4th year.)

Teng Hoo, Zheng Gu Shell Prize (Awarded annually to up to four Chemical Engineering undergraduate students for outstanding performances on the industrial Link Project.)

William Qi, Jingesi Aerai Henry Sawistowski Travel Fellowship (For travel and accommodation. Awarded annually to one/two undergraduate students on the Chemical Engineering degree course for an outstanding performance on the Link/Research Project.)

Alisha Wong, Siying Lu Roger Sargent Prize (For annual award to a student in the third or fourth year of the MEng course in Chemical Engineering for work in the application of computers to the solution of Chemical Engineering problems.)

Ignacio Deprit Loveless Book Prize (Awarded annually to an undergraduate student in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemical Technology for outstanding work in the Humanities or Social Studies.)

Shi Fen Wong Lonza Prize (Awarded annually to a Chemical Engineering undergraduate student for outstanding performance on a pharmaceutical related final year design project or biopharmaceutical related final year research project.)

Wouter Thijssen Chemical Engineering Student Centenary Prize (Awarded annually to the undergraduate student who is adjudged to have achieved the greatest merit in project work in the final year of the MEng in Chemical Engineering.)

Marcus Bishop City and Guilds Gold Medal for Excellence (Each Department in City & Guilds College to nominate up to one final year undergraduate for exceptional standards in a City & Guilds qualification.)
