The 11th Japanese Speech Contest for University Students

The Final Day of the 11th Japanese Speech Contest for University Students took place at SOAS, the university of London, on the 27th February 2016.

The final showcased six individual speeches, five individual presentations and four group presentations by UK university students.

This year Jia Hui Choo (3rd year, Electrical and Electronics Engineering), who took the Imperial Horizons Japanese Level 3 course, was selected as one of the five finalists for the Individual Presentation Category. She competed against the other four finalists, three of whom studied Japanese as their main degree, and was a runner-up with her fascinating speech entitled "Kiasuism- The National Trait of Singapore". The judges said that the presentations were all of a very high standard and it was very difficult to decide on the winner.

In the Group Presentation category, one of the best four finalist groups was Imperial's team "Tanuki" ("raccoon" in Japanese). The group consists of two Imperial Horizons Japanese Level 2 students, Teng Kuan Vong (3rd year, Physics) and Wen Han Yap (3rd year, Mechanical Engineering). They were awarded "The Local Discovery Prize" with their interesting and informative presentation about "South Kensington's Museums".
