CDT student James Clarke wins the online "I'm An Engineer, Get Me Out Of Here!" competition in the Diagnosis Zone

Jame Clarke, from CDT Neurotechnology's cohort 2, has just been pronounced as one of the latest winners of the "I'm an Engineer, Get Me Out of Here!" online competition.

I’m an Engineer, Get me out of Here! is an online public engagement event that gets engineers talking to school students all over the UK.

"..there still really was nothing that could have prepared me for the live chats. They were completely bonkers, and were – without a doubt – the most fun part of the whole thing...

– James Clarke

CDT Neurotech cohort 2

Engineers put up a profile on this site, answer students’ questions about engineering, their work, the universe and beyond. They engage directly with students in live text-based chats. Students vote for their favourite engineer in an X-Factor style competition, to win £500 to spend on further public engagement.

The event is divided into different themed zones with five engineers from that area.  James was proclaimed the November winner in the "Diagnosis" zone.

James completed his MRes Neurotechnology last year and is now in the first year of his CDT PhD, based in the Mechanical Engineering department at Imperial, working with Ravi Vaidyanathan.

He plans to use the prize to develop wearable robotic workshops for the public that can provide hands on experiencing building and programming wearable sensors.

James was quick to encourgage other engineers to get involved with the programme:

Engineers, sign up to as many of these as you can! You won’t regret a single one.
