The Section of Structural Biology would like to congratulate Miss Ke Yan Wen on passing her PhD viva.
Ke Yan’s viva examiners were Dr Jim Ajioka (University of Cambridge) and Dr Karen Polizzi (Imperial College).
She was examined on a project that focused on developing synthetic biology biosensors for the detection of infectious pathogens in cystic fibrosis. The discussion centred mainly on the clinical relevance and applications of the research.
Ke Yan has been based at Imperial College for five years. Before her PhD she completed an MRes in Systems and Synthetic Biology at Imperial, and obtained her Bachelors from University College Utrecht in the Netherlands.
Her PhD supervisor, Professor Paul Freemont, said: “Hearty congratulations to Ke Yan on passing her PhD viva - near to a lab record in terms of timing!”
