Tribology research student wins IMechE prize

by Nadia Barbu

PhD student James Ewen from the Tribology group was awarded the best talk prize by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

James received the Mission of Tribology Research 25 Prize on 7 December, for the talk “Nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations of organic friction modifiers”.

The study described in the talk uses nonequilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations to aid the development of new formulations to control friction. For the successful development and application of lubricants, it is important to fully understand the nano-scale behaviour of complex tribological systems, but this is difficult to achieve through experiments.
