Cohort 7 Welcomes Cohort 8

by Dr Joel Luke

Cohorts 7 and 8 from the Plastic Electronics CDT enjoyed a night of bonding and revelry in the first inter-cohort outing of this academic year.

Alice Smith, Cohort 7’s rep, organised for the two groups to enjoy an evening at one of the many Indian restaurants in Brick Lane, a London staple. With the bold claim of, ‘World’s Best Curry House’ on the front of the building, culinary excellence was expected, but not all agreed, with Dave from Cohort 8 exclaiming that, ‘ The onion bhajis were so flat, they experienced π-π stacking!’.

The evening provided a chance for Cohort 8 to learn from Cohort 7 in a variety of ways. Advice was given on life at Imperial and more generally about living in London. Research projects were also discussed, and everyone gained an insight into the different areas of research within the CDT and how these may overlap with their own work. This form of inter-cohort networking is important for the new students, giving them a chance to discuss things that they may not be comfortable discussing with their supervisors or research groups. The evening has also created connections that may lead to collaboration or friendship in the future!

Both cohorts would like to thank the CDT for partially funding the evening. Good fun was had by all.

Thanks to Alice for organising, and for the photos!
