CPE visit to GIST & POSTECH, South Korea

by Dr Steph Pendlebury

Interactions between the CPE and South Korean plastic electronics researchers were strengthened during a visit by CPE academics in December 2016.

Prof James Durrent (Chemistry, CPE Director), Prof Ji-Seon Kim (Physics), Prof Martin Heeney (Chemistry), Dr Martyn McLachlan (Materials) and Dr Steph Pendlebury (CPE Programme Manager) visited South Korea in December 2016 to discuss further collaborations between plastic electronics researchers at Gwangju Institute of Science & Technology and Pohang University of Science & Technology.

GIST PresidentAt GIST, the CPE researchers were welcomed by the university President, Prof Seung Hyeon Moon. A symposium featuring talks by the CPE academics was well attended by GIST students and researchers. The second day involved research presentation and very productive project discussions. This also provided the opportunity to meet more GIST researchers; three academic visitors (Dr Sooncheol Kwon, Dr Soo Young Jang and Dr Hongkyu Kang) are already part-way through research visits at Imperial, and in future we hope to extend this exchange to other researchers.

GIST visit The discussions held during this visit, on a variety of possible joint CPE-GIST research projects, have already resulted in the submission of one joint proposal. If you are interested in collaborating with GIST, including taking part in the researcher exchange scheme, please contact Prof Ji-Seon Kim (ji-seon.kim@imperial.ac.uk).

The CPE academics also visited Pohang University of Science & Technology (POSTECH), where further research collaboration discussions were held.
