Imperial announces plans for new student hall of residence
The newly purchased 1.8 acre site in North Acton has been earmarked for the development of a new hall of residence for Imperial undergraduates.
The site, subject to planning permission, will be home to a 700-bed development with completion targeted for September 2020. The development, situated on Wales Farm Road, is just a five minute walk from the College’s existing accommodation at Woodward Buildings, two minutes from North Acton Underground Station and 11 minutes from the new Crossrail station due to open in 2018.
At Imperial, we are committed to enriching the wider student experience, as well as providing a world class educational experience.

Provost
The new hall will represent a substantial investment from the College in student experience, supporting its commitment to offer accommodation to all eligible first year undergraduates under the accommodation guarantee and offer much needed extra bed space due to the increase in student numbers.
The development builds on the College’s growing presence in the area, adding to the existing Imperial student community of around 900 living in the College’s Woodward Buildings as well as the nearby Costume Store development. Students at the new development will also have access to existing public facilities at Woodward including a restaurant and bar.
Imperial’s Provost, Professor James Stirling, said: “At Imperial, we are committed to enriching the wider student experience, as well as providing a world class educational experience. We know that students based in Woodward Buildings are enjoying the facilities on offer, and I’m pleased we will be able to offer that experience to more of our students in the future.”
As with the recent development at Woodward Buildings, which opened in September 2015, the College will work closely with students to develop the look and feel of the communal spaces for the new halls as the project develops.
Jane Neary, Director of Campus Services said: “Like Woodward Buildings, the new hall will meet the demand from students for single en suite rooms in purpose designed accommodation.
“This new development will be a great addition to our accommodation portfolio, and will enable us to offer a greater range of cheaper bed space options to our students.”
