RAG Week bake sale outside the Queen's Tower Rooms

Imperial was home to its own Great Charity Bake-Off today as Rag Week 2017 took over the campus.

RAG Week landed on Imperial’s South Kensington campus today with students baking and selling fresh cookies to raise money for a host of good causes.

RAG Week BaksaleThe sale was part of a collaboration with RAG Week sponsor Psychic Monkey, which saw the smell of fresh baked cookies drifting across the Queen’s Lawn.

RAG volunteers were joined by Imperial’s President, Professor Gast, and other members of the College’s senior staff who bought cookies and made donations to support the students’ fundraising efforts.

RAG Chair, Cyn Nancarrow-Lei (Department of Chemistry), said: “So far we’ve had our Valentine’s Ball which was a lot of fun - we had over 400 people attending and it was a big success.

“Today we’re selling freshly baked cookies and bubble tea out on the Queen’s Lawn. We’re looking forward to raising as much as we can throughout the week.”

The bake sale was just one of several events taking place throughout the week to raise money for RAG’s nominated charities.

This year’s charities are; Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice, Cancer Research UK, The British Heart Foundation and Action Aid with RAG adding to the money already raised since the beginning of term through events such as the Jail Break which saw students travel as far as Iceland, Indonesia and Bali for free raising money along the way.

Other events taking place across the week include:

  • Tours of the tunnels below campus and of the Queens Tower will be taking place each day between 12.00 -14.00
  • On Wednesday staff and students are invited to take part in one of three world record attempts: most nationalities in a group hug, fastest blindfolded orange peel, and fastest Smarties sort using chopsticks. They will be taking place from 12.00 on the Queens Lawn.
  • On Thursday RAG Charity Challenge (held with the Finance Society) will be offering students the chance to win £1000 for their idea by pitching to a panel of expert judges.
  • On Friday RAG will be hosting a Mystery Tour event with students travelling by coach to a mystery city to take part for a weekend of fun and fundraising.
