New advisor role for Professor Julian Bommer
Professor Julian Bommer has been appointed to advise the UK Oil & Gas Authority in relation to induced seismic hazard due to hydraulic fracturing.
Working together with seismologists from the British Geological Survey, Professor Bommer is assisting OGA in developing guidelines for controlling and monitoring induced seismic hazard.
His engagement is primarily to assist with defining risk-based operational guidelines to be followed in the event of specified earthquake magnitude thresholds being exceeded. Professor Bommer will also assist OGA with review of induced seismicity aspects of license applications for shale gas projects.
