The rapidly growing Institute for Molecular Science and Engineering has recently celebrated its first full year of operations.

IMSE now has more than 90 Affiliates from 15 Imperial departments. The Institute has also established a three-stage approach for generating grand challenge projects – defining capability, exploring the problem and engaging stakeholders – which has been successfully used to engage a number of major companies.

Highlights from the first year

In other highlights, IMSE is excited to be launching a brand-new transdisciplinary MRes programme in October 2017.

We also held our first Sandpit event in September 2016, through which we brought together researchers from 10 different Imperial departments. In this process we were able to ignite and inspire innovative ideas. Several multidisciplinary research proposals were submitted to the IMSE Seed Funding programme, and seven were selected to receive support.

About IMSE

IMSE seeks to transform the way in which engineers, scientists and clinicians build on molecular-scale scientific breakthroughs, with the aim of developing novel solutions to challenges faced by society and industry. Innovative educational programmes and stimulating events are a key part of our work.
