by Emma Rainbow

Professor Alessandro Astolfi will receive the Outstanding Service Award from the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC).

This award acknowledges Professor Astolfi's many years of service to IFAC in senior positions, and he will be presented this award in July at a special dinner.

Founded in Paris in 1957, IFAC is the worldwide organization tasked with promoting the science and technology of automatic control in all systems, whether for example, engineering, physical, biological, social or economic, in both theory and application. IFAC is also concerned with the impact of control technology on society.

Professor Astolfi has also been appointed Editor-in-chief of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Transactions on Automatic Control (IEEE T AC) starting in January 2018. The IEEE T AC is the most prestigious control journal and one of the oldest of the IEEE Transactions: it was founded in 1956 even before the IEEE which was founded in 1963.  Professor Astolfi is also the first non-US based Editor in Chief of the Journal.
