by Nadia Barbu

Last week, the Department of Mechanical Engineering hosted its annual Research Showcase evening, with talks from our academics and guest Alan Begg.

The first speaker at the event was Dr Aimee Morgans, who presented her work on “Humming flames who break gas turbines”, including the open source code for simulating combustion instability (OSCILOS) developed with her team.

Next, Dr Cristoph Schwingshackl from the Dynamics group explored the problems, but also the opportunities brought by nonlinear dynamics to engineering designs.
