ECCMID will host a strong presence of HPRU researchers and PhD students in Vienna this month

This April will see the 27th European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, which will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 22 - 25 April 2017

The NIHR Health Protection Research Unit in HCAI and AMR is delighted to report that we will be sending fifteen of our researchers and Phd students to ECCMID to represent and showcase the research that the Unit has been involved in.

The breadth of activities that the HPRU team will be involved in ranges from poster presentations (both paper and electronic); giving talks and oral presentations to presenting seminars as well as co-chairing sessions.

Dr Tim Rawson, Clinical Research Fellow will be presenting a seminar entitled ’What does a systematic review of clinical decision support systems for antimicrobial management tell us?’.
Dr Ceire Costelloe, Lecturer/NIHR Career Development Fellow will be also be giving a talk on ‘How overuse of antibiotics fuels antibiotic resistance’.

Professor Alison Holmes, Director of the HPRU in HCAI and AMR will be co-chairing a session Antimicrobial resistance in long-term care facilities.

Our HPRU PhD students, Rachael Troughton, Nina Zhu, Emma Taylor and Nichola Naylor will also be active presenting posters on topics ranging from post discharge surveillance to understanding factors influencing prescribing behaviours. Additionally, Emma Taylor will be giving an oral presentation on 'Pan-aminoglycoside resistance: the emergence of 16S rRNA methyltransferases in the UK’.
Attending the conference will provide the junior researchers important networking opportunities as well as a chance to see different approaches to undertaking and presenting research.

We look forward to hearing about the conference on the HPRU team’s return.
