Outreach prize:
Beth Rice
For several years Beth has been running a science club at the Baytree centre in Brixton. The centre is an education and social inclusion charity for women and girls in the local area with the aim of supporting the participants through education and training programmes. The science club is for primary aged children (6-11 years old) and each week Beth runs a different hands on experiment to teach the children something fascinating about science and how to think like a scientist. The club has helped numerous children (and their families) and Beth has acted as a fantastic role model to inspire the girls taking part to take their scientific enquiry to a higher level and hopefully one day become scientists themselves. In addition Beth has helped train and mentor volunteers at the club, helping them become better science communicators.
