SENER delegation visit ushers in landmark new energy research collaboration

by Ms Genevieve Timmins

On 23 March, the Department of Chemical Engineering proudly hosted a delegation from Mexico's Secretary of Energy (SENER).

The cohort was led by Mexico’s undersecretary for planning and energy transition, Leonardo Beltrán Rodríguez.

Dr Daryl Williams explained that the visit was “essential to the development of a long-term collaboration for energy research between SENER and the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London.”

The visit was an opportunity to lay the foundations of the landmark new partnership with the Mexican government, and to discuss common interests in the field of energy research. The group participated in a tour of the Department’s Carbon Capture Pilot Plant, and met with Imperial College Provost James Stirling.

“In the coming months, we hope to be able to visit our partners in Mexico again, and begin developing programmes of research,” said Dr Williams.

“We’re looking to develop new research collaborations with Mexican universities and national research laboratories.”
