The Department is delighted to announce that the James Rennie Medal 2017 has been awarded to one of our MEng graduates from 2012, Joseph Maltezos.

The James Rennie Medal is one of the most prestigious awards given by the Institution of Civil Engineers and promotes the achievements of newly qualified chartered civil engineers. The competition was first held in 1996 and is won by the best Chartered Professional Review candidate.

Candidates are nominated who show outstanding qualities in their review and really promote developments in civil engineering. Their project reports and presentations also need to show they thoroughly understand engineering design and construction principles.  This year the three finalists were chosen from more than 1,665 Chartered Civil Engineers across the world.  Each finalist presented their report and participated in a lively question and answer session with the audience and judging panel.  The award was presented by Professor Tim Broyd, the current President of The Institution of Civil Engineers.  Joseph is currently a Senior Engineer working with Laing O’Rourke.
