The whole team celebrates at the event

A team of budding engineers from a London school has won recognition at the VEX Robotics World Championships thanks to support from the Dean's Fund.

The team from The Henrietta Barnett School (HBS) in Hampstead came away with Judges’ Awards for the performance of their robots against over 1,400 student-led teams at the tenth annual event, held in Louisville, Kentucky.

The trip was made possible by support from the Dean’s Fund, as part of the Faculty’s commitment to support and educate the engineers of the future.

Competing against teams from over 30 countries around the world, the four HBS robots held their own and placed well in the overall standings. Two of the team’s robots were presented with Judges’ Awards to recognise their all-round performance and cap a successful trip for the team from North London.

In each respective divisions, the team’s final rankings were:

  • HBS Blaze was placed 39th in the Science division with 478 points
  • HBS Synergy was placed 21st in the Technology division with 491 points
  • HBS Robosapiens was places 33rd in the Engineering division with 484 points
  • HBS Overdrive was placed 61st in the Maths division with 445 points
  • HBS Vexplosions was placed 20th in the Maths division with 551 points

The competition is held as a celebration of STEM education, providing student teams the opportunity to share their year-long robotics projects and compete within a fun environment.
