The Head of the Imperial College Tribology group, Professor Daniele Dini will give his inaugural lecture on Tuesday, 13 June.

The lecture, titled “Releasing friction’s potential”, will examine advances in tribology research and their importance for a variety of industry applications.

Professor Dini will explore career highlights and his hopes for the longer term implications of his work, from significant emission reduction of cars and planes, to a better understanding of how cartilage is worn down in our joints; from the study of fatigue, fracture and impact of engineering materials and minimising failure in the surgical removal of brain tumours, all the way to the development of new biomimetic solutions for adhesive devices.

Daniele Dini is Professor of Tribology in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial. He was elected a Fellow of the IMechE in 2014 and is the recipient of the prestigious EPSRC Established Career Fellowship, awarded in 2016. Professor Dini and the Tribology group are amongst the recipients of this year's President's Awards and Medals for Excellence in Research at Imperial College London.

A reception with refreshments will be held in the Level 2 foyer of the City and Guilds Building both before the lecture, from 16:45, and after, from 18:30. The lecture is free to attend and open to all, but places must be booked in advance through Eventbrite.
