In response to student feedback, beginning this summer, an environmental control system will be installed in Central Library.
The project will address the issues with temperature and ventilation and improve the working environment.
Preparatory building works were completed earlier this year and we are pleased to inform our users that commencing Saturday 1 July, the main phase of the project will begin. There will be noise during the works and space will be limited in the Library, but we will keep disruption to a minimum.
Changes to study space
The building works will affect study space on levels 3, 4 and 5.
Levels 4 and 5 will be closed from 17.00 on Friday 30 June and reopen on Wednesday 1 November with air conditioning and a new layout, including new furniture and improved power to desks.
Level 3 will be closed from 17.00 on Friday 30 June to allow for the temporary relocation of books from levels 4 and 5. It will reopen on Monday 10 July and will house mainly books. There will also be a small amount of study space on level 3.
During the building works, study spaces will continue to be available on levels 1 and 2, but the number of PCs in the Library will be significantly reduced. Central Library users will be welcome to use our campus libraries.
Book moves
Throughout the summer and in October, the majority of the books will be available on level 3.
Book moves will take place from the evening of Friday 30 June to Sunday 9 July. While books are being moved a large section of the collection will be unavailable.
If you know you will need a book between 1 July and 9 July, please borrow it before 1 July.
The collection will be available again from Monday 10 July.
