Our Helix Centre opens its doors to the public this Friday for an event about how to improve healthcare at the end of life.

Ageing populations, dispersed families, medical advances and limited NHS resources are all effecting the way we die, and yet we do not talk about our wishes with healthcare professionals or our loved ones.

Our Helix Centre are developing innovations to help people achieve better deaths and on Friday 16^th June, Helix designers will host live demonstrations and discussions about their work ranging from redesigning the ‘do not resuscitate’ process through to imagining the hospice of the future. Your opinions and ideas will be asked for! 

The event is part of the London Creativity and Wellbeing Week, structured around the life course and Friday’s focus is all about Design and Death.

We’re redesigning healthcare

Helix is a joint collaboration between Imperial College London and the Royal College of Art. Their multi-disciplinary design team is uniquely placed on the frontline of healthcare, inside a large London NHS hospital. Their award winning studio is the centre point of our team’s work at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington. Designed by architecture students from the RCA, our glass “box” is a space for collaborative work with patients, clinicians, designers and visitors.
