Last week, Professor Daniele Dini held his inaugural lecture, "Releasing friction's potential".
The lecture provided a broad view to the field of tribology, a research area with applications in sectors as diverse as transport, energy, nano-science and medicine.
“Tribology is the science of interfaces”, Professor Dini explained. Throughout his presentation, the audience had the chance to find out more about the speaker’s work as well as the personal trajectory of his career.
Highlighted projects included an adhesive inspired by the feet of geckos, and an innovative material for a brain phantom that would offer a safe and ethical training environment for neurosurgeons.
At the end of the lecture, Professor David Hills from the University of Oxford (where Professor Dini studied for a D.Phil) gave the vote of thanks.
