The philosophy of this exhibition is to capture a snapshot of the creativity, technical thought and design processes of the students at the end of their two-year double-masters journey. This snapshot will form the vision for a new future society, which the students will fulfil as they enter the world.

Generously sponsored by Autodesk and the Future of British Manufacturing (FOBM).

This show immediately follows on from the Degree Show at the Royal College of Art.

Exhibition open to the public: Wednesday 5 - Friday 7 July 2017, 09:00 - 17:00

Innovation Design Engineering (MA & MSc)

Innovation Design Engineering (IDE) takes its participating second-year students on a twelve-week journey, embracing complexity, challenging real world problems, playfully experimenting, exploring future scenarios, and generating cutting-edge innovation. Their projects offer an insight into the values of the students, which manifest their identity as designers through the challenges they have set themselves.

The IDE students of 2017 are tackling topics that are integral to society: the future of the human self, the enhancement of the human body, the preservation of the environment, the cutting edge of technology and the utopian ideals of society. Topics of human-computer interaction, future healthcare, the experience of different realities, re-inventing media consumption, application of artificial intelligence are all presented, embedded into the reality and daily lives of our future selves.

Their design and engineering interventions represent an important window into the near-future of our society through the innovation of values, products, systems and services we will be experiencing in the next decade.

Heads of Programme Prof. Miles Pennington (Royal College of Art) & Prof. Peter Childs (Imperial College London)

Global Innovation Design (MA & MSc)

Global Innovation Design (GID) cultivates an unparalleled transformative postgraduate experience. GID graduates are independent, self-managed and highly motivated designers. Immersed in global cultures, they worked for extended periods in London, the Pratt Institute, New York and, Keio University, Tokyo. GID international partnerships also include Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and Tsinghua University, Beijing, each contributing to a rich mix of perspectives on design, engineering, business and cultural sensitivity.

The 2017 GID graduates tackled significant innovation challenges: wellbeing, global democracy, 21st century learning, HCI and smart healthcare technology. They have demonstrated expertise in designing culturally appropriate translations, grounded in their unique global experiences. GID graduates have begun their journeys to become global thinkers, doers, change makers, leaders, innovators and value creators. As individuals and through their projects, these designers embody the vision of the GID programme.

Heads of Programme Dr. Jonathan Antonio Edelman (Royal College of Art) & Prof. Saeema Ahmed-Kristensen (Imperial College London)
