Senior Tutor Esther Perea presented with President's Award for Excellence
We are very proud that Senior Tutor Esther Perea received a President's Award for Excellence in Student Support.
The Award was made by the President, Alice Gast, at a reception held earlier this week. The President’s Awards for Excellence are made annually to staff who have made outstanding contributions in many areas including teaching, pastoral care, research supervision and supporting the student experience. Nominations are received from staff and students across the College, and winners are decided by a selection panel chaired by the Vice-Provost (Education) and Vice-Provost (Research) and the Associate-Provost (Academic Partnerships).
Awards for Excellence in Student Support are made for exceptional contributions towards a supportive learning environment. Dr Kristel Fobelets, Electrical and Electronic Engineering’s Director of Undergraduate Studies, says: ‘Esther’s dedication to student welfare is outstanding. She remembers what is going on in students’ lives and is always ready to support the student community. She makes the students feel at home and cared for. Coming from a mechanical and design engineering background, she has taken it upon herself to teach our students design principles and design sketches. She has introduced this in the first year via innovative interactive teaching methods and it’s exciting to see artistic talent and future employment skills in action! The President’s Award is truly deserved.’
Esther says: ‘I feel very honoured to have received this award. Working in collaboration with colleagues to improve the learning experience of our students has been great. I look forward to being part of the Departmental team implementing the College’s new Learning and Teaching Strategy, further improving our students’ learning.’
Esther joined the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering in 2014 as Principal Teaching Fellow and Senior Tutor. Esther is a qualified Mechanical Engineer (MEng from University College London) and an Industrial Designer (MDes (RCA) from the Royal College of Art and Imperial College). Esther has over ten years' industrial experience in engineering projects, from concept generation stage through to high volume manufacture in a wide range of industries (architecture, point of sale, pharmaceuticals and medical devices).
