Last week saw the World Health Organisation host a workshop on the implementation of national action plans to contain antimicrobial resistance.

Last week, Dr Raheelah Ahmad, NIHR Knowledge Mobilisation Fellow attended the World Health Organisation workshop in Berlin.

The WHO workshop brought together world leading experts to identify good practices in tackling strategic and practical challenges during the development and implementation of national action plans (NAPs) and World Antibiotic Awareness Week campaign and to contain antimicrobial resistance (AMR)

WHO recognises that member states are at different stages in terms of their capacity and progress to address antimicrobial resistance (AMR). With this in mind the workshop focussed on two important areas of an effective AMR response – ‘Prevention and Control – Capacity building for health professionals’ and ‘Awareness, Education and Behaviour Change’, where Dr Ahmad led and facilitated the behaviour change workshop as well as presenting ‘Addressing AMR - A Knowledge mobilisation perspective’.

The aim of the workshop was to facilitate critical thinking and reflection on these two important areas through expert presentations, collaborative group-work and discussion.
