As part of the Daiwa Foundation Award, Juliet Allibone and Nichola Naylor visited colleagues in Kyoto to discuss collaborative projects to tackle AMR

HPRU colleagues Juliet Allibone (Head of Operations) and Nichola Naylor (Project Co-lead, Research Assistant/PhD Student) travelled to Kyoto this month as part of the Daiwa Foundation Award. The award aims to strengthen institutional links between Britain and Japan through funding collaborative projects.

International learning and exchange of innovative models is encouraged by the UK Department of Health, and also international collaboration is one of seven key areas for action in the UK Five Year Antimicrobial Resistance Strategy. Juliet and Nichola visited Professor Yuichi Imanaka and colleagues at the Kyoto University to discuss joint projects aimed at tackling global antimicrobial resistance through shared learning. This event follows on from another in January 2017, in which Kyoto University participants travelled to Imperial to kick-off the collaborative projects across both institutions.

This time, in Kyoto, the aim was to progress the qualitative and quantitative work being completed by both groups, and to plan for future joint working, including discussions on new funding opportunities. Fellow HPRU colleagues Dr Raheelah Ahmad (Project Co-lead) and Dr Michiyo Iwami (Joint Project Lead with Prof Imanaka) also joined the sessions virtually, which ranged from presentations and project discussions to capacity building sessions.
