Dr Ceire Costelloe & Dr Elita Jauneikaite will be participating at the International Society of Infectious Diseases 2018 Hackathon
Lecturer Dr Ceire Costelloe and Imperial College Research Fellow Dr Elita Jauneikaite will be attending the second International Society of Infectious Diseases (ISID) Hackathon hosted at 2018 International Congress on Infectious Diseases (ICID) in Buenos Aires, Argentina in March this year.
Participants will be asked to solve problems related to the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals with a particular focus on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) conditions. Given the universal challenges of poor hygiene and sanitation, the health of millions stands to benefit from innovative, practice-oriented solutions.
A hackathon is known as an “innovation marathon.” Small, multi-disciplinary teams will innovate, build, and share their creations over the course of three days at ICID. Participants will have just over two days to describe the problems they are interested in solving, then form teams to develop a prototype solution. At the end of the event, teams will present their solution to a panel of judges who will award a $1,5000 USD Elsevier Foundation award and 2 $250 USD ProMED awards.
We wish our HPRU colleagues the very best of luck at the upcoming hackathon and look forward to hearing about it.
