Focus on: Data and Analytics Week (5 - 8 February 2018)

At the beginning of February, we are exploring the fascinating world of data and analytics and its implications within a wide range of industries.

Between Monday 5th and Thursday 8th February 2018, you have the opportunity to attend several talks where you can learn about the important role of data and analytics in some of the world’s leading companies.

1.      data.inclusive at Imperial – Monday 5 February

This lunchtime careers talk is the result of an initiative to improve the diversity of teams in Data and Technology careers. Female speakers from a wide range of industries will discuss their experiences and answer questions about Big Data and the career opportunities it can hold. This event aims to support women into joining the Data & Technology field, however male students are also wPicture of woman against a background of binary dataelcome to attend.

2.      Big Data with Splunk – Tuesday 6 February

Splunk was founded to pursue a disruptive new vision: make machine data accessible, usable and valuable to everyone. The company is focused specifically on the challenges and opportunity of effectively managing massive amounts of machine data, and providing a next-generation platform for powerful new applications. In this event, Splunk employees are coming to talk about their careers and how they ended up in one of the world’s leading data software companies.

3.      Data and Analytics Forum – Tuesday 6 February

This forum will be an opportunity for you to meet and network with professionals who have built their career in the Data and Analytics field across a wide range of industries. The organisations attending are: Quantum Black (Business and Management Analytics), TTP (Healthcare Analytics), Splunk (Software company), Facebook and Price Waterhouse Cooper (PwC).

4.      Technology Consulting with the Kubrick Group – Wednesday 7 February

This event consists of a series of 15-minute appointments, where you can have a one-to-one discussion about your career with a recruiter and an analyst from the Kubrick group. Learn more about the industry as a whole, how you could build your CV to get your ideal job or internship and ask any questions around the recruitment processes for large companies.

5.      Cracking a code - A beginners guide to coding with PwC – Wednesday 7 February

Coding and innovation are becoming increasingly important skills in today's world and could lead to endless possibilities in your career. This is an interactive coding workshop, where you will learn the basics of front end web development, as well as some key innovation tools and techniques which will help you to develop new ideas or opportunities more effectively in the future.

You don't need to be studying an IT or Computer Science degree to learn how to code. In fact, this session is specifically aimed at students who are just starting and who are interested in finding out more about innovation and coding.

Please note for this session you will need to bring your own laptop that is charged.

6.      Artificial Intelligence with Eigen Technologies – Thursday 8 February

Come along and hear how you can pursue a career in data from a research-led artificial intelligence company. Eigen Technologies work with some of the world’s biggest names in finance, law, and professional services. Their role is to power their clients’ ability to make data-driven decisions by distilling and understanding their data —both words and numbers— at scale.
