A PhD graduate from the Department of Computing was named Woman of the Year at a prestigious international awards ceremony last week.

Marily Nika, who took a PhD in Computer Science, received the accolade at the 2018 FDM everywoman in Technology Awards in recognition of her contribution to the UK technology industry.

Now working as Engineering Program Manager at Google, Marily was originally nominated for 2018's International Inspiration award for her contributions in technology and for her support in the women in technology community over the past five years.

However to her surprise she was named Women of the Year.

During her speech, she talked about the importance of mentorship and of forming communities for advancing women in technology.
