CSEI welcomes Building and Construction Authority delegation
Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority delegation joins the Centre for System Engineering and Innovation for a week long Executive Programme "“Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) and Integrated Digital Delivery (IDD)" March 2018.
Attended by 35 senior construction executives the CSEI programme draws on leading research and practices giving an overview of digital engineering, innovation management, optimisation, logistics and design tools, site visits, industrial talks, practical challenges and DfMA digital strategy.
Welcoming the delegation Professor Jennifer Whyte provides an overview and introduction to construction as a manufacturing process; to the history of work on production systems at Imperial and to the week’s activities.
Joining Professor Whyte, Mark Bew (Chairman at PCSG) welcomed the group and reported on the UK’s Agenda on Digital Engineering.
Supporting CSEI was a host of other Imperial College London’s academics such as Professors David Gann, James Barlow, David Fisk and Dr Panagiotis Angeloudis speaking on construction sector transformation, innovation and operational complexity.
Day two of the programme saw the delegation visiting Imperial Data Science Institute where Dr Susan Mulcahy and her team provided an opportunity to view state of the art visualization technologies and discuss their use in digital engineering.
The group also participated in the parade of trades game, which simulates the way work moves in a “Parade” through a project. It explores the impact of unpredictable workflow on project performance; the combined effects of dependence and variation on system performance.
Programme speaker also included Phil Langley, Bryden Wood, Fergal Burke, Development Manager, White City Campus, Doug Baldock, MEP Lead, Liang O'Rourke ?Advanced Manufacturing Facility, Dr Chris Milllard, Head of Engineering Excellence, Rory Bergin, Partner, HTA Design LLP, Dr Robert Leicht, Penn State University, Dr Peter Court, TAKT Consultancy.
The BCA development programme is part of an ongoing CSEI initiative. To learn more please contact us at csei@imperial.ac.uk
