Students and postdocs from the Durrant group (Chemistry) took part in the Grantham Institutes 10th anniversary celebrations on 28 February 2018.

Continuing with the 10 year anniversary celebrations of the Grantham Institute for Climate Change, the Grantham Annual lecture was presented at the end of last month by an important invited speaker: HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco. His Serene Highness gave an interesting talk focused on mitigating the effects of climate change, with particular emphasis on the fragility and importance of our oceans.

As part of the evening’s events a small number of outreach stalls were set up for attendees to learn about the different ways that Imperial College and start-up companies are working to provide energy solutions, control waste and minimise pollution. Members of the Durrant group presented a range of flexible organic photovoltaics, demonstrating the important niche that such materials can fill in meeting energy demands in creative ways. They also displayed a conceptual H₂-powered remote-control car to highlight the importance of ongoing research in solar fuel technology to enable efficient energy storage and alternative fuel sources.

The evening was very successful with many guests, including His Serene Highness himself, engaging in the stalls and enquiring for more information.
