Publications focused on malaria and related parasites

by Charlotte Sutherell

Five current and past group members have had their work published recently.

Anja has published a review in ACS Infectious Diseases on N-myristoylation as a drug target in malaria. Her first paper gives a perspective on the different functions of known NMT substrates in malaria and the impacts of inhibiting either myristoylation or targets upstream of NMT.

Markus and Megan have published a review addressing new developments in probing and targeting protein acylation in protozoan parasites such as malaria, leishmaniasis and African sleeping sickness. In particular, they discuss how chemical proteomic approaches have contributed to understanding protein lipidation in these organisms and the development of new small molecule inhibitors to target parasite acyl transferases.

Kate and Julia collaborated with the group of Dr Matt Fuchter and Professor Jake Baum at Imperial College, London to identify the targets of a diaminoquinazoline inhibitor in malaria, using a photo-cross-linkable ligand and proteomics.

Congratulations to everyone involved!
