Chemical Engineering successfully renews its Silver Athena SWAN Award

by Sara West

The department has successfully been named as an Athena SWAN Silver Award holder, marking its ninth year as an Athena Swan award recipient.

This year’s award is particularly significant as the department has met the expanded criteria set in 2015, demonstrating its commitment to going above and beyond to support gender equality in academia.

The Athena Swan Charter was established in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM). The accreditation is awarded on the basis of a fully-evidenced application, with each award lasting three years.

Dr Cleo Kontoravdi, Athena SWAN co-ordinator for the Department of Chemical Engineering, said: “We are delighted to have received our third Athena SWAN Silver Award and would like to thank everyone involved for their dedication to making the application and in supporting the department as an environment which empowers women at all levels of their career.”
