Know the lingo

From academic year 2018/19 the Graduate School and Centre for Languages, Culture and Communication will offer free language classes to postgraduate research students.

The pilot project, running throughout the 2018/19 academic year, will explore the Imperial postgraduate community’s interest in receiving a similar choice of language teaching as undergraduate students currently receive.

A total of 150 places will be available across the Horizons and Evening Class programmes in those classes that have not yet reached maximum capacity.

Professor Sue Gibson, Director of the Graduate School, said: “This is a fabulous opportunity for postgraduate research students to develop new language skills and to gain a deep insight into a culture other than their own. We look forward to developing this further in the future in response to student interest and feedback”.

The College has earned a place on 2018’s list of Top 30 Employers for Working Families. The annual benchmark has recognised Imperial as leading the way in building a family friendly and flexible workplace. Imperial has taken part in the Working Families’ benchmark for the last 3 years.

Suzanne Christopher, Employee Engagement Manager, said: “I am delighted that Imperial has been again listed as a Top 30 Employer by Working Families. The College is committed to providing targeted support for staff who are parents or have other caring responsibilities, as well as promoting and supporting a healthy work-life balance for all our staff.”
