The Composites Centre hosts Research Showcase event
The exciting and innovative composites research undertaken at Imperial was showcased at a special event for industry and research professionals.
On Monday 24th September 2018 Imperial welcomed more than 50 representatives from industry and other research funding organisations to the first Composites Research Showcase event in over ten years.
The aim of the event was to highlight the breadth and depth of research undertaken by the Composites Centre and promote future collaborations with industry.
The Composites Centre is a multidisciplinary research group encompassing around 30 academics across seven departments at Imperial. The Centre is home to a broad spectrum of expertise and hosts internationally renowned research in the field of composites, specifically across six themes:
- Synthesis of new and multifunctional materials
- Composite design, life cycle analysis and recycling
- Composite manufacture and repair
- Composite analysis, modelling and prediction
- Experimental mechanics
- Composite inspection and characterisation
Attendees at the showcase event had the opportunity to learn about the specific areas of research currently being undertaken in the Centre by meeting with researchers and academics at the poster exhibition.
Finally, Professor Emile Greenhalgh (Head of the Composites Centre) led an afternoon of talks by academics with expertise across the range of disciplines in the Centre.
“We’ve had great feedback from attendees who found the first event of its kind for a decade to have been an informative and successful research showcase. In particular, we were able to present a holistic view of the world leading Composites research and innovation, expertise and facilities across Imperial College. This ranges from pioneering formulation of the next generation of Composites, world-leading predictive modelling of these materials and their structures to addressing in-service and end-of-life issues. Finally, the brochure collated for the event now provides a valuable resource for promoting Composites at Imperial in the future.” - Professor Emile Greenhalgh.
If you were unable to attend the showcase event or want to learn more about the research of the Composites Centre, a copy of the brochure that accompanied the event can be downloaded from the Composites Centre website.
