Congratulations to Dr Nick Jones on the recent publication in Nature Communications.
Dr Nick Jones, from the Department of Mathematics and EPSRC Centre for Mathematics of Precision Healthcare, has co-authored a paper in Nature Communications entitled ‘High prevalence of focal and multi-focal somatic genetic variants in the human brain', which explores direct evidence for large islands of mutation in the brain using deep-sequencing of aggregates of cells.
Dr Nick Jones and collaborators harnessed ultra-high depth sequencing to survey the somatic mutations across different brain regions. Using a computational model of brain development, they extrapolate their findings across the human brain, and provide an estimate of the somatic mutation burden in the human population.
