President Alice Gast has warned of the risks of letting 'talent mobility get lost amid the Brexit negotiations'.

Writing in this morning’s Times, President Gast said: “Internationalism and success go hand-in-hand.

"As Brexit and a redesigned immigration system loom, we must nurture UK science’s vibrant international talent base.

"From the human genome to graphene, highly international, globally networked research groups put our scientists at the forefront of discovery.”

She added: “If there can be side-deals for fisheries, why side-line science?”

The piece follows Professor Gast’s President’s Address last week, where she made the case for a series of immigration reforms.
