As experts on climate change, many people ask us, what can I do personally about it?
We spoke to our team of scientists at the Grantham Institute – Climate Change and the Environment at Imperial College London and have created a digital feature to highlight the most achievable ways you personally can make a difference.
While individuals alone cannot make all the drastic emissions cuts that are needed limit climate change to acceptable levels, personal action is essential to raise the importance of issues to policymakers and businesses. Often, simple ways to cut your carbon footprint will also have other positive benefits – like improving your health or saving your money.
Our tips include ways to reduce your carbon emissions at home, making your money work for the environment as well as for you, and using the power of conversation to spread positive change with your family and friends.
Ultimately, steps to reduce carbon emissions will have a positive impact on other local issues, like improving air quality and public health, creating jobs and reducing inequality Alyssa Gilbert Director of Policy and Translation at the Grantham Institute
“One of the most important items on the list urges people to tell those in power that climate change is a top priority and demands urgent action,” says Alyssa Gilbert, Director of Policy and Translation at the Grantham Institute.
“The decisions taken today by Members of Parliament, local councillors and city mayors about issues like roads, cycling infrastructure, waste and recycling, and energy efficient homes will all have a huge impact on the future of the United Kingdom”.
“Ultimately, steps to reduce carbon emissions will also have a positive impact on other local issues, like improving air quality and public health, creating jobs and reducing inequality”.
This digital feature showcases how individual lifestyle changes can help create a cleaner, greener, fairer future. It highlights some of the latest Imperial research, and offers top tips for how personal choices can help improve your health and wellbeing, as well as reduce your impact on the planet.
